Getting Started
Welcome to Taifa Mail
Official government mailboxes and email delivery for Kenyan public institutions.
Taifa Mail is an official mailbox and email delivery platform for Kenyan government institutions. It helps ministries, counties, state departments, agencies, and public institutions issue trusted email addresses on their own government domains, receive mail, and send notices citizens can recognise.
The platform combines hosted officer mailboxes, domain verification, inbound mail, SMTP, REST API sending, and broadcast tools in one service. It is free for government institutions.
Key features
- ICTA-first onboarding - submit your institution's domains, reasons, and mailbox counts to ICTA (the Kenya ICT Authority) in one request; ICTA approves or rejects each domain independently.
- Official mailboxes - once a domain is approved, create officer and shared mailboxes such as
info@health.go.ke,ps@ministry.go.ke, orsupport@county.go.ke. - Government domain verification - publish SPF, DKIM, DMARC, return-path, and MX records with guided checks, once ICTA has approved the domain.
- Hosted inbox and IMAP/POP access - read mail in the dashboard or connect Outlook, Apple Mail, Thunderbird, and mobile mail apps.
- SMTP and REST API sending - connect portals, CRMs, help desks, payment systems, and legacy applications.
- Broadcasts and public notices - send announcements to contact lists with delivery, open, click, bounce, and complaint tracking.
- Inbound routing - forward incoming mail to officers, URLs, or department systems while keeping an archive in Taifa Mail.
- Institution workspaces - manage domains, mailboxes, keys, logs, and staff access for one ministry, county, agency, or public institution.
- Free for government institutions - no plans, quotas, or payment details are required.
Three common workflows
| Workflow | Best for |
|---|---|
| Officer mailboxes | Give staff official addresses on the institution domain and connect them to a mail client over IMAP or POP. |
| Application mail | Send receipts, confirmations, case updates, alerts, and status notices from government systems using the REST API or SMTP. |
| Public communication | Send notices, public notices, and service updates from verified addresses in the dashboard. |
